Empowering all people on the Horn of Africa to participate fully in the civic, cultural, political, and economic life of their communities.
Rising Nomads was founded by a group of Somali-Americans committed to a just future for all people on the Horn of Africa. Drawing on our experiences as refugees fleeing violence, and as new immigrants seeking dignity and opportunity in a new nation, the Rising Nomads team is committed to confronting ethnic and religious division, marginalization, corruption and the structural inequalities that arise from a shared history of colonization, colorism, conflict, displacement, environmental degradation, patriarchy, and economic underdevelopment.
Our goal is to help all people on the Horn of Africa to build a just future for themselves, one full of opportunity, and free from all forms of violence. Rising Nomads’ team works through its programs to increase accountability, civic participation, and economic opportunity for all people living on the Horn or in the diaspora with a special emphasis on youth, women and girls. As a team, and as East Africans ourselves, we are committed to ending the violence, oppression, injustice, and inequality that have injured and exploited our communities for too long.
African communities coming together to empower one another
To empower all people on the Horn of Africa to participate fully in the civic, cultural, political, and economic life of their communities
We believe a just future can only be realized by listening to the voices of individuals and communities most affected by injustice, following their lead, and acting on their demands for change.
